Duluth Marina Seeks Approval For Hotel

Duluth Boat Club Picture courtesy of Duluth Library Harbor Cove Marina is one step closer to constructing a 55 room, 37,000 sq ft hotel at the 104 slip marina. The Duluth Planning Commission voted 6 to 2 to recommend that the Duluth City Council approve rezoning the property from industrial waterfront to mixed used waterfront. Approval of the rezoning by the City Council would allow owners of the marina to move ahead with there plans to build the hotel. Inspiration for the design of the new hotel would come from the former clubhouse of the Duluth Boat Club. The clubhouse was originally built on the property in 1886 and was rebuilt in 1902 after a fire destroyed the original structure. If the rezoning is approved by the City Council the marina owners will have to provide information to the council on needed upgrades to utilities and infrastructure. Other amenities at the new hotel could include a swimming pool and underwater LED dock lights.
